Electronic Arts News: Worst Company In America EA Games Shuts Down Three Facebook Games: Sims Social, SimCity Social, Pet Society

Electronic Arts (EA) games has announced that it will shut down three Facebook games: The Sims Social, SimCity Social and Pet Society.

EA made the difficult decision to retire some of its "older" Facebook games after the number of players and amount of activity for each game has decreased, according to Eurogamer.net.

EA said in a statement, "For people who have seen other recent shutdowns of social games, perhaps this is not surprising."

All three of the cancelled games were made by social developer PlayFish. They will go offline on June 14. EA games addressed the cancellation of each title individually, although each of the statements generally the same thing.

Of Sims Social, EA games said, "We had to make the difficult decision to close down The Sims Social so we can reallocate development resources to other titles that we hope you'll have just as much fun playing. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we thank you for everything you've added to the community."

Players of the games reacted strongly against the announcement. Naomi Szwed of Australia wrote on Facebook of SimCity Social's cancellation, "I only play ONE game on Facebook. And this is it! It is the ONLY GAME I PLAY. You really know how to make customers happy. I will boycott anything EA if you remove this. Sorry."

Patty.Switzer.1 wasn't happy about The Sims Social being cancelled. The user wrote on the Playfish forum, "As of now I will not be playing Sims anymore. I would like to be reimbursed for the remaining 92 Sims Cash. My reasons for leaving now is I will not put anymore money, time or effort into playing a game that is ending."

EA games will continue to offer PopCap games to users, including Bejeweled Blitz, Solitaire Blitz, and Plants vs. Zombies Adventures.

EA will apparently make a "special offer" to players of the cancelled titles in the form of an unspecified PopCap game. Details of the promotion to ease the transition for users of the abandoned titles will be made soon.

EA has been ranked the worst company in America for the second year in a row.
