Dennis Rodman Will Head Back To North Korea This Summer To "Have Some Fun" With Kim Jong Un

Could Dennis Rodman be the U.S. ambassador for North Korea?

After making plenty of headlines by visiting the country to host a basketball exhibition and socializing with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, former NBA star Dennis Rodman has confirmed that he will head back to the country for a vacation with the supreme leader on August 1.

"We have no plans really, as far as what we're going to do over there, but we'll just hang and have some fun!" said Rodman to Gossip Extra.

Rodman and his entourage are reportedly the first Americans that the North Korean leader has ever met. The pair were photographed laughing together during the trip and the basketball star went on to call Un a "great guy to me" and "a friend."

His remarks generated controversy because Un has repeatedly threatened nuclear attacks on the US and has continued the trend of keeping North Korea isolated from the rest of the world. In addition, he continues to live a lavish lifestyle while most people in his country live in extreme poverty.

Rodman later clarified his remarks on Un by stating on ABC news show This Week with George Stephanopoulos, "I don't condone what he does, but he's my friend."

The basketball star has publicly urged President Barack Obama to call the North Korean leader because the two could bond over their reported love for the sport. Rodman said he hopes to meet with Obama before his departure, but realizes it's unlikely.

Since retiring from the NBA in 2000, Rodman's personal troubles have continually made headlines. Last December, he was ordered by a judge to pay $500,000 in back child support to his ex-wife, but claimed he was too broke to do so. He has also publicly struggled with alcoholism in recent years, entering an outpatient rehab clinic in 2008 and appearing on Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew in 2009.

Rodman recently appeared on the current season of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice, but was fired in the sixth episode.
