Danny Amendola To Donate To Help Victims Of Boston Marathon Bombs When He Catches And Drops The Ball With The New England Patriots

Newly signed New England Patriot Danny Amendola will donate his own money in the wake of the explosions during the Boston Marathon on Monday.

"I will DONATE $100 for EVERY pass I catch next season to whatever 'Boston Marathon Relief Fund' there is. And $200 for any dropped pass," Danny Amendola tweeted.

The bombings killed three people and injured roughly 150 others. One of the deceased included an eight-year-old boy who was waiting for his father to finish the race. Also, 45-50 others lost their limbs as of Tuesday morning.

The eight-year-old boy's siblings lost limbs from the ball bearings that flew off the bombs when it exploded. His mother was also injured from the bomb.

This gesture from Amendola is the start of one way the Boston area sports will try to give back and help the victims from the tragedy on Patriot's Day. Even if Amendola drops the ball, a charity will be rewared with $200, so a positive will come about from something Amendola hopes never happens.

Hours after the Patriots lost Wes Welker to the Denver Broncos, New England responded by signing Amendola on March 13. He received a five-year contract worth $31 million, which $10 million is guaranteed.

The 27-year-old receiver played for three teams before coming to New England. He received media attention with his appearance with the Dallas Cowboys on HBO's "Hard Knocks." From there, he played for the Cowboy's practice squad and played briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles. He put together his best seasons with the St. Louis Rams.

Amendola has had an injury-pronged career, but became a kick-return specialist and a slot receiver that became the Rams' number one option in the passing game last season. Now he has a chance to play with future hall of famer Tom Brady.
