LaGuardia Airport, The Logan Airport In Boston And The Streets Of New York Had To Evacuate Due To Suspicious Bags And Two Men Speaking Arabic That Were About To Board A Plane

Evacuations took place and suspicious bags were found Tuesday in Boston and New York following the bombings that took place Monday during the Boston Marathon.

A suspicious package causes a mandatory evacuation from LaGuardia airport in New York Tuesday.

A Port Authority spokeswoman said the suspicious package was found on the third floor of the Central Terminal Building at LaGuardia, in an area overlooking the food court and outside the security barrier. An FAA spokesman said the airport's Terminal B was evacuated, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Ron Marsico of the Port Authority, which runs the airport, told reported that wires protruding from a fluorescent light fixture led someone to call authorities Tuesday morning. This prompted an evacuation of the upper level of the airport's central terminal building. Around 11:30 a.m., everything was cleared and business was as usual again.

Another "almost" incident took place Tuesday in Manhattan. Emergency Services Unit officers investigated a suspicious package on 42nd Street. Dilip Caauahari, manager of a nearby 7-Eleven told reported that the package turned out to be a bag left unattended by a homeless woman.

There was also a plane scheduled to depart from the Logan airport in Boston. The plane was evacuated when two men were seen speaking Arabic, according to myfoxboston.com.

Sources told the site that there were several marathon runners on the flight who showed concern that the two people, who were not sitting together, were speaking the language. The plane was sent back to the gate and the men were escorted off the aircraft.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the police department was fully prepared to protect the city.

"Some of the security steps we are taking may be noticeable," Bloomberg said.  "And others will not be."

"We're stepping up security at hotels and other prominent locations in the city through deployment of the NYPD's critical response vehicles (CRVs) until more about the explosion is learned," NYPD spokesman Paul Browne added.
