NHL Outdoor Games 2014 Include Stadiums In New York, L.A., Chicago And Vancouver

The NHL reportedly to add a handful of outdoor games for the 2014 season.

The tradition of the Winter Classic might possibly get expanded from the New Year's tradition to a games spread across the U.S. and Canada in what would be known as the "Stadium Series."

Some of the games will be at Dodger Stadium (Ducks vs. Kings), Soldier Field (Penguins vs. Blackhawks) and B.C. Place in Vancouver (Senators vs. Ducks), according to a report from TSN.

The other two added games according to the report would by the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils at Yankees Stadium and the Rangers again at Yankee Stadium against the New York Islanders.

Since there was a lockout that cost the NHL teams almost half the regular-season games, the Winter Classic was cancelled and reportedly moved to 2014. The game will between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs at the University of Michigan's football field.

John Shannon of Sportsnet confirmed discussions surrounding the six games were "accurate," but a team's president told him plans weren't completely finished.

The Winter Classic is a tradition that started on Jan. 1 2008. This season was the first time since its inauguration that the outdoor game was not being played.
