2NE1 Beat One Direction, Girls' Generation In PopCrush Battle Of The Bands

Over a year since their last album, 2NE1 continues to slay.

On Tuesday, the website PopCrush crowned the K-pop quintet the queens of their 2015 Battle of the Bands. 2NE1 beat out British boy band One Direction in the final round.

The YG Entertainment girl group won with 50.1% of the votes, going neck to neck with One Direction until the very end of the competition.

PopcCush anointed the members of 2NE1 by announcing the news with an image photoshopped so that 2NE1's members appeared to be wearing crowns.

The Battle of the Band began on Oct. 1, when 2NE1 first faced off against their rival Korean group, SM Entertainment's Girls' Generation.

K-pop fans came out in hoards to support their favorite girl group, but 2NE1 came out on top. Like the finale, voting was close in the first round, and 2NE1 pulled through with a slim margin of 50.78% in comparison to Girls' Generation's 49.22.

In the semi-finals, 2NE1 competed with American girl group Fifth Harmony, and won nearly three-quarters of votes in comparison to the "Worth It" singers.

The final round allowed for a week of voting, giving K-pop fans around the world time to rally and support 2NE1.

2NE1 has been on hiatus since a 2014 drug-related scandal led member Park Bom to step out of the spotlight. There have been rumors of a comeback from 2NE1, but no official word from YG Entertainment.
