Byron Scott Fired As Cleveland Cavaliers Coach: Team Finishes With Third Worst Record In NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers fired Byron Scott as the team's head coach.

Scott went 64-166 with the Cavs, and finished with the NBA's third-worst record of 24-58 this season. The team ended the season Wednesday with its sixth-consecutive loss.

Bryon Scott endured a bad loss days after being named the head coach of the Cavaliers in 2010-LeBron James left Cleveland and signed with the Miami Heat, where he went on to win two more MVPs and an NBA championship.

Cleveland has been rebuilding its team since the departure of James. It started with the first-overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. The team selected rookie sensation Kyrie Irving. Irving would be named rookie of the year, but has suffered some injuries during his young career.

Dion Waiters spent his rookie season with the Cavaliers as Irving's back-court partner. The team has shown signs of a bright future with its young talents that also include Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thomas.

Apparently, Scott wasn't the coach of the future for this squad.

"You take away the positives and negatives and what you need to work on for next season," Cleveland guard Kyrie Irving told reporters Wednesday night. "We'll come back collectively in September and come back a better ballclub. That's the main goal. (but) we're not going to win a lot of games if we continue to be the last place team in defensive field goal percentage."

During his three seasons as the Cavs' coach, the suffered the worst losing streak in NBA history with 26 consecutive loses.

The three-time NBA champion with the L.A. Lakers never hoisted the trophy as a head coach. The closest he came was with the then New Jersey Nets in the 2002 and 2003 playoffs. The Nets made it the finals, but lost in both trips.

On Wednesday, Scott told reporters that the season has been "frustrating" because the Cavaliers "haven't had our full complement of players. It is still a growing process. I think our guys are still getting better and next year I hope that we'll be healthy" for a team that has suffered injuries that have stopped the team from gelling together.
