Lawrence Frank Fired As Detroit Pistons Coach: Firing Trend Continues

Lawrence Frank fired as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons Thursday.

The New York native was let go from his coaching duties for a team trying to get back to where they were not too long ago, which was the NBA championship.

Now, with all the starting-five from the 2004 championship team no longer on the team, Lawrence Frank was fired as the head coach of this young team that finished 29-53 this season.

"We thank Lawrence for his hard work and dedication, but we feel it is in the best interest of the franchise to make a change at this time," Pistons president Joe Dumars said. "Decisions like this are never easy and we wish Lawrence well in the future."

With Byron Scott fired Thursday as well from the Cleveland Cavaliers after the season ended Wednesday, it wouldn't be shocking if a few more coaches were to be fired.

The rumor of Frank's departure from the team has been going on for quite some time now. Detroit finished 11th in the Eastern Conference, but is in the midst of rebuilding its team.

Frank knew his termination was coming.

"Unfortunately, it's been too long a talk for too long," Frank told reporters Wednesday night. "It's been going on for a while, so it's not like this just jumped up and it's a news flash."Because you have to answer the question every day, it's something you do give some thought to."

His best achievement as a head coach came with the New Jersey Nets when in 2004, the team started 13-0. This was the most consecutive wins by a head coach to start his head-coaching career.

Frank lost his job with the Nets when the team started the 0-16 during the 2009 season.
