Lauryn Hill Slapped With Eviction Notice After Revealing “Very Real Threats” Against Herself And Family; Ex-Fugees Singer Faces Prison Time

Lauryn Hill is being sued for eviction by her landlord, who claims that Hill stopped making payments to her house last month.

TMZ reported that Lauryn Hill's landlord has taken the eviction case to court and is demanding that the singer pay her bill or she'll be thrown off the property of her South Orange, New Jersey mansion. Hill has been renting the home since 2009.

This is the icing on the cake for the Fugees co-founder, who has been facing a slew of financial difficulties lately. Hill is also accused of owing more than $1.6 million in taxes. After pleading guilty to tax fraud for failing to file her tax returns in 2005, 2006, and 2007, Hill could face up to a 3 years in prison for all counts.

Hill earned an estimated $1.8 million during those three years, according to Entertainment Weekly. Her legal documents explained that she refused to pay the IRS because she "withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family." She asked the court to take into consideration that she has received threats in the past when deciding on her sentence.

Hill previously wrote in a statement, "As my potential to work, and therefore earn freely, was being threatened, I did whatever needed to be done in order to insulate my family from the climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism that I was surrounded by. This was absolutely critical while trying to find and establish a new and very necessary community of healthy people, and also heal and detoxify myself and my family while raising my young children." Hill is raising six children, five with reggae artist Rohan Marley.

A judge is scheduled to announce her sentence on Monday. Hill is trying to avoid jail time and has requested probation to make it easier for her to pay back her bill.

Since the release of her 1998 Grammy-winning album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the singer has performed only occasionally. Most recently, she appeared with Nas on the Life Is Good/Black Rage tour in the fall of 2012.
