Super Junior's Choi Siwon Named Special UNICEF Korean Committee Rep

Singer-actor Choi Siwon has been appointed as a special United Nations representative.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, a representative from SM Entertainment revealed that the Super Junior member and popular actor has been named one of the special representatives for the Korean Committee of the United Nations children's rights and emergency relief organization (UNICEF).

Siwon was chosen due to his active support in various UNICEF campaigns since 2010, from AIDS prevention to helping young victims of the April earthquake in Nepal.

"I'm extremely happy and honored to be named one of the special representatives," Siwon said, as reported by Yonhap News. "I want to share this good will with children around the world and help make this world a better place for all children."

Siwon will receive his official certificate of appointment at a ceremony at the committee's office on Thursday, Nov. 12.

The news come just over a week before the star is scheduled to enlist as a conscripted policeman on Nov. 19 to fulfill his mandatory military service requirement.

Most recently, Siwon appeared in the MBC drama She Was Pretty. The drama concluded its 16-episode run on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Meanwhile, Super Junior just recently celebrated their 10th anniversary in the South Korean music industry.
