[VIDEO] 'Sweet Caroline' Sung By Neil Diamond in Boston And By NYC Bruins Fan Goes Viral

In recent days, "Sweet Caroline" has taken on an added significance at sports games. It's often sung at Red Sox games in Boston, and Neil Diamond came to Fenway on Saturday to sing the anthem. Neil Diamond came on the field after the 8th inning and belted out the tune. Reports say Diamond was moved  to appear of his own volition. He simply called Fenway's managers in the front office that morning to ask for permission. It was a moving act, and a touching gesture to honor the lives of those lost in the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday, April 15th.

Last night at Madison Square Garden, video was taken of a Bruins fan enthusiastically singing the song. The New York Rangers were playing the New Jersey Devils when a pane of glass broke during the third period. While fans waited for it to be fixed, they went into the song. NBC's cameras caught a woman in a Bruins shirt belting out the song while waving an American flag, clearly very moved. It's an example of sports and music can deeply touch people and cause them to band together, regardless of allegiances like cities or teams.

Yankee Stadium was full of revelers singing 'Sweet Caroline' as well. Earlier this week, attendees sung the song in honor of victims of the bombing in Boston. The famous NYC-Boston rivalry was dissolved for a moment, as people banded together and sang the perennial game favorite in support.

It's been a tense week around the nation after bombs exploded Monday near the Boston Marathon's finish line, killing three people and injuring more than 170. The city was on lockdown due to apprehension of the suspects on Friday. But Boston, a notoriously tough city, is banding together in support-and 'Sweet Caroline' is a needed reminder that recovery will come with time.
