‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Clip Unveiled; Spock In Trouble, Says “The Needs Of The Many Outweigh The Needs Of The Few” [VIDEO]

Paramount pictures has just dropped the first clip from the J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek Into Darkness, just a few weeks before its release. The plot of the first Abrams Star Trek adaptation will feature the return trip to the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.

The new Star Trek Into Darkness clip appears to be from the beginning of the film, when James Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) are evading  hostile natives on a planet. Spock (Zachary Quinto) goes into the heart of an almost-erupting volcano, and the crew scrambles to find a way to rescue Spock. In the clip, the situation seems hopeless, and Spock insists that the ship and crew continue without him.

The clip doesn't reveal more about the mysterious villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch. In previous trailers, Cumberbatch's villain seems set on destroying the entire Starfleet and wrecking havoc on London. Beyond that, the villain's motivations remain unknown.

Sci-fi fans are getting excited about Abrams' Star Trek press run, hoping that he will reveal information about the next chronicle in the Lucasfilms franchise, Star Wars: Episode VII.

Quinto and Pine commented at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards about the new Star Wars film and how it may occupy so much of Abrams' time that he'll have to give up the reigns on the Star Trek franchise.

Pine said, "[Star Wars] is a big commitment. The good thing about J.J. is that no matter what happens, you know that if he has to hand it off to someone, it will be someone that he trusts and will take care of the franchise. But we do want J.J. I think all of us do."

Star Trek Into Darkness will open to theaters on May 17 and to IMAX 3D on May 15.
