Ben Affleck To Live On $1.50 A Day To Raise Poverty Awareness Through ‘Live Below The Line’ Challenge

Ben Affleck will be living on $1.50 a day after taking on the Live Below The Line challenge, which seeks to raise awareness for the Global Poverty Project. Affleck promised to only spend $1.50 on his food and drink expenses for at least one day, limiting his consumption to only what many people living in poverty can afford.

Argo director Ben Affleck confirmed his participation in the Live Below The Line challenge on Twitter:

The Live Below The Line website explains that the $1.50-a-day mission attempts "to give a glimpse into the lives of 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line every day - and who have to make $1.50 cover a lot more than food."

Michael Trainer, the U.S. Country Director of the Global Poverty Project said in a statement, "Last year we had over 15,000 people participate, and raised over $4 million. We're excited to leverage the support The Global Poverty Project has received from the campaign last year."

The group's website says that living below the poverty line can challenge "the way people in the US think about poverty - and [make] a huge difference."

1.4 billion people face extreme hunger and poverty, and the Global Poverty Project's mission is to raise awareness about the issue. The website states, "Quite simply, we're building a movement of passionate people willing and able to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most."

Many others celebrities have taken the Live Below The Line challenge in addition to Oscar-winner Ben Affleck, including Josh Groban, Sophia Bush, Debi Mazar, and Hunter Biden.

This will be Josh Groban's second time taking the challenge. He reportedly said, "Taking on this challenge last year was such a humbling experience for me, and I was so proud and heartened by my fans that joined me."

"It's amazing how much we take for granted not having to live in hunger, and I am honored to have been asked to help spread the word about this eye-opening campaign again this year," Groban concluded.

The stars will keep track of their experiences in the challenge on their own Twitter accounts, as well as on the Live Below The Line's official Twitter handle, @LBLUS.
