Christian Woman Finds $36,000 In Cash In Miami Beach Golf Course, Reports It To Police

A woman finds $36,000 in cash and did what her Christian faith demands of her – to not steal it and return it to its rightful owners.

Rachel Castillo works as a drink server at the Miami Beach Golf Course, last January 20 customers alerted her about a bag that was left unattended in her area. She checked it and opened it to discover $36,000 in cold hard cash. The amount was close to what she makes annually. With the bag, she discovered an ID of a 76-year-old man.

According to WSVN, Castillo immediately contacted Miami Beach Police to report the cash she found. Police located the individual who happen to reside in an assisted living facility and possibly has a medical condition. They’re still in the process of returning the funds to him.

Castillo could easily make twice as much if she discreetly pocketed the cash, as written by the Miami New Times, but she did not at all regret in doing the right thing.

She told WSVN in an interview, “I'm a Christian, and the Bible says, 'Do not steal, do not lie,' you know, all these things, and if you do what's right, if you live the right way, you'll be taken care of. I believe I'll be taken care of... if you do what's right."

The Miami Herald, noted, however that if no one claims the money in 90 days, Castillo will be able to keep it.
