'Man Of Steel’ Advance Screening: Walmart, Warner Bros. Partner To Offer Unique Opportunities And Merchandise For Customers

Walmart and Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday, April 24 a partnership involving Man of Steel that is sure to get Superman fans into the massive retail chain. Customers at more than 3,700 Walmart stores, starting on May 18, will be able to buy tickets to special advance screenings of Man of Steel. The Man of Steel screenings are scheduled to take place on June 13, one day before the Superman movie opens across America.

The partnership marks the first time in history that a film studio has worked with a retailer to provide such a high-value opportunity for fans, according to Deadline.

Walmart will offer nearly 1 million tickets for the advance Man of Steel screenings. Approximately 6,372 exclusive screenings will take place. The Walmart customers will be able to buy up to four tickets per visit and will have the option to choose between 2D or 3D showings. Variety reported that Walmart will actively promote the deal on social media with #SeeSteelFirst.

In addition to early access to Man of Steel, Walmart customers who purchase advance tickets will receive bonuses like an exclusive digital comic written by David Goyer, the Man of Steel screenwriter, and a pre-order code for the Man of Steel Blu-ray or digital download.

Starting on April 28, Man of Steel merchandise (t-shirts, posters, electronics, etc.) will go on sale only at Walmart stores and on Walmart.com.

Variety contributor Marc Graser explained that this deal is very significant for Warner Bros. Now that the nation's largest retailer will flex its marketing muscle in favor of the new DC Comics production, the likelihood of success is much higher. Warner Bros. is banking on Man of Steel and Superman actor Henry Cavill to open the door for other DC Comics stories' adaptation into film, after the end of the Harry Potter franchise.

This partnership will guarantee a great deal of exposure and hype for both the Man of Steel premiere and the release of DVD and Blu-Ray for home viewing.

Laura Phillips, senior Vice President of entertainment at Walmart U.S. said in a statement, "We couldn't be more excited to give our customers and associates early access to one of the summer's most anticipated movies. Walmart's premiere of Man of Steel once again proves we have the ambition and studio partnerships to develop unique retail programs that give our customers access to the movies they love."
