Amy Winehouse Documentary Film Ready To Be Sold: A Look At The Wild Career That Featured Drugs, Marriages, Music Until Singer's Death In 2011 [VIDEO]

An Amy Winehouse documentary film is reportedly on the way, as Universal Music is teaming up with Asif Kapadia to bring the life of singer Amy Winehouse to the big screen.

For the Amy Winehouse documentary film, the two will use never-before-seen archival footage, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The yet-untitled film will recount the recording artist's life and career.

The Amy Winehouse documentary film will be based on her international rise to fame from her second album, "Back to Black." Her album has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide since its release seven years ago. Winehouse died at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning.

"This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can," said Kapadia in a statement. "Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle."

The English five-time Grammy Award winner kicked her drug issues, but developed an alcohol problem. The song "Rehab" gave her a lot of international attention, as the song was based on her substance abuse problems.

Her ex-husband introduced her to cocaine and heroin, according to the husband himself, Blake Fielder-Civil, in an interview with a tabloid.

Focus Features International will shop the Amy Winehouse documentary film to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival.

"Asif and James have the remarkable ability to bring a moving and thought-provoking story to life, as evidenced by Senna. We look forward to seeing their vision of Amy Winehouse," Focus International co-president Alison Thompson told Hollywood Reporter.

The untitled Amy Winehouse documentary film reunites Kapadia with producer James Gay-Rees. They worked together on the 2010 award-winning documentary, "Senna." That film followed the life and death of Brazilian car-racing champion Ayrton Senna.
