Danica Patrick Divorce Finalized After Admitting Relationship to Fellow Nascar Driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr; Patrick Said Marriage Was "Irretrievably Broken'

Danica Patrick's divorce is final now, after a nearly 5-month long court battle ended her marriage to Paul Hospenthal, as reported Thursday night. This comes just a couple months after Danica Patrick admitted to an extra-marital relationship with fellow Nascar driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Danica Patrick's divorce proceedings ended on April 17, according to court documents. Patrick sought to end her seven-year marriage to Hospenthal when she filed documents on January 3 with the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa Country. According to documents obtained by ESPN, the consent decree was handed down by a judge on April 15 and filed two days later.

When Patrick filed, she added "My spouse and I did acquire community property during our marriage, and it will be divided as indicated on a Settlement Agreement which will be submitted to the court at a later date."

Patrick announced her plans to divorce back in November on Facebook, the day after she was named the most popular driver in the Nascar Nationwide Series.

"I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," she wrote. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."

Patrick admitted that Fellow Sprint Cup rookie, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., was her boyfriend in February, and the two have been openly affectionate since, sitting together during driver's meetings and appearing together publicly.

Stenhouse told the crowd at the Bristol Motor Speedway in March, of Patrick, "Sorry guys, she's taken" during introductions.

After her divorce was finalized on April 17th, Patrick tweeted about going to the movie Pain and Gain with Stenhouse the very next day, writing, "My lovely @StenhouseJr took me to dinner and a movie. #painandgain is worth a trip to the theater!"

The arduous court battle was just another in a long series of PR battles she's fought, including her war of words with driver, David Gilliland, after Sunday's Kansas Race, where she finished a disappointing 25th. She's only ranked 25th in the Sprint Cup Standings and after the Kasas race, Patrick said of Gilliland, "he tries to take me out every time," and "tell his spotter that I'm coming after him if he does it again. In fact, I might just do it right now."

Gilliland famously countered with the pithy, "shut up and drive."
