MTV "Scream" T.V. Series Gets The Green light: Hit-Movies From The 1990's Can Debut In 2014 [VIDEO]

MTV "Scream" T.V. series: The cable network MTV gave the green light to remake the 1996 horror film, "Scream," that spawned three sequels. The "Scream" TV reboot will become an hour-long, weekly series.

The partners are in talks with the original film's director, Wes Craven, to helm the one-hour pilot; MTV is search for writers for the new MTV "Scream" T.V. series. If ordered to series, "Scream" would debut in the summer of 2014.

"Scream" is based on a mysterious killer known as Ghostface. The killer runs carnage through the fictional town of Woodsboro. The movies mixed horror with comedy, as the high school students would reference other horror films of the past. The characters would deaths would end up similar to the ones the students referenced.

The network is expected to make the MTV "Scream" T.V. series announcement at its annual upfront presentation Thursday in New York. This will bring MTV into the now popular horror-T.V. camp, with successful shows like "The Walking Dead" or "American Horror Story."

There is no announcement on whether the show will continue where the storylines of the movies left off or start over from the beginning.

The hit-movie from the 1990s spawned movies that mocked it and other horror-flicks, called "Scary Movie." The 2000 film poked fun at the storyline of Ghostface slaying students at a fictional high school. There have been four sequels to "Scary Movie."
