K-pop may still be considered a niche among those who are not already following groups from the big three, but no one can deny the explosion of international K-pop that is Psy.
After all, there were people actually getting tattoos of "Gangnam Style" when the song went viral.
Psy is officially back after his unprecedented success with two brand new singles and a new album. At this year's 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards, Psy performed his songs "Napal Baji," "Daddy," and "Gangnam Style," to close out the ceremony. Fans can check out the performance below.
Last week, Psy released his seventh career album after almost a two year hiatus. The rapper explained in an interview that he was feeling the pressure after the overwhelming success of "Gangnam Style."
"I was initially not able to overcome the weight as a produce of 'Gangnam Style' and couldn't release any songs for the past two years. I lost interest in music and even thought of giving up making songs," said Psy (via The Korea Herald).
After "Gangnam Style" became the most viewed clip in the history of the internet, it definitely makes sense that Psy would fear releasing any new music. Luckily for his longtime fans, Psy finally overcame his fears and released his new album "7th Album" on Dec. 1.
Psy's performance at the 2015 MAMA ceremony marks his official return to the K-pop scene and with the support of the crowd, he looks to be still at the top of his game.
