Chris Pine Splits With Sports Illustrated Model, Dominique Piek: Star Trek's Captain Kirk Might Be Headed 'Into The Darkness' As Single Man This Summer

Chris Pine split with Dominique Piek the month before  Pine's starring turn as Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram's second installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise when "Star Trek: Into the Darkness" comes out in May.

A source close to the couple told Entertainment Weekly "They have split, but it was mutual."

The 32-year-old Star Trek star and the 27-year-old Sports Illustrated swimsuit model have dated for close to two years. But they only first made their relationship public last May at the Cannes Film Festival. May this year will be a lot lonelier for both of them, but Pine should do pretty well since he's starring in the summer blockbuster: "Stark Trek: Into the Darkness."

Piek, also, should have no shortage of admirers. She is, after-all, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.

The two remained private about their relationship even after they'd been revealed to be dating. Pine said little on the record about his now-former beau. They went to a few public outings as a couple, including that Cannes Film Festival reveal, but mostly kept to themselves, preferring privacy even in a world where they could have capitalized on each other's fame.

Chris has opened up about what he wants in a woman, though. He told Men's Health in the UK last year that he enjoys a biting sense of humor in a woman, saying "I do like dating cynics-they tend to be incredibly funny."

Pine made his debut as an actor in "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement," starring opposite Anne Hathaway.

But since then, Pine's become a bit of an international celebrity when he took on the iconic role of Captain James T. Kirk, in J.J. Abrams' reboot of the Stark Trek franchise that started with 2009's blockbuster. Now he's all set to reprise his role next month.

As the face of the Star Trek behemoth, Pine should have no trouble finding the company of a lovely lady to assuage his grief--if there is any--over the end of his relationship with Piek.

Plus, he's got plenty to do in the mean time as "Star Trek: Into the Darkness" is set to be released in the UK on May 9, and in the United States on May 15, with a wider U.S. release that Friday, May 17.

Pine will obviously be flying solo at the premieres now that Dominique Piek is out of the picture.
