"Star Wars" Google Cardboard Viewer has made it to the month of "The Force.
There is no doubt that the "Star Wars" franchise is one of the most popular pop culture icons in history. Even those who aren't fully familiar with the franchise will be familiar to certain characters that have appeared in many merchandise, fashion items, memes and the like. With the upcoming "The Force Awakens" movie coming out in a couple of weeks, the "Star Wars" fever has gone into overdrive.
Verizon caught wind of the hype and decided to give out "Star Wars" Google Cardboard Viewers for free. The designs of this cardboard come in four different characters iconic to the films: Kylo Ren, R2-D2, Stormtroopers and BB-8.
According to Mashable, only Verizon customers can get one of these viewers for free and while supplies last. It works with the free "Star Wars" app for iOS and android. There are reportedly nine short 360 degree videos that will be up on the app for viewing,but only "Jakku Spy" was the only one made available last Wednesday.
The Star Wars Website reported that "Jakku Spy" also includes a series of experiences in which you will be able to recieve messages from the Resistance. Each of them will unlock as the theatrical release of "The Force Awakens" draws closer.
“I hope that people really feel like they’re immersed in this new location in a way they couldn’t even imagine,” said Rob Bredow, Lucasfilm’s head of New Media/VP, Advanced Development GroupBredow. “Getting to experience it in a first-person way, right up close, is fun. For sure.”
The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be premiering on Dec. 18, 2015.
"Star Wars" is an American epic space opera that is centered on the film series created by George Lucas. It became a successful commercial franchise with the success of the first trilogy and continued on to the succeeding trilogy and spin-offs. The story takes place in a galaxy far, far away there the Empire, the governing power in the galaxy, gets threatened by the existence of Anakin Skywalker and the rebellion formed against it.
