Nascar Pit Fight: Race Carries Over Into 'Crotch' Shot; Two Pit Crew Members Also Arrested [video]

A Nascar pit fight ensued after drivers, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Brian Scott, took their beef off the track. The exchange between the drivers then spilled outside the roadway to the track's driver owner lot, as Richard Childress Racing crew members, Michael "Big Mike" Scearce and Thomas Costello, engaged in fisticuffs before both were charged with assault, reports Fox News. Both the crew members were released and a court date is pending in the case.

Henrico Police issued a statement about the altercation between the RCR crew members: "A verbal argument that started in the infield area of RIR that escalated into a physical altercation near the Driver/Owner Lot. The assault occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m"

Earlier in the night Piquet and Scott made contact with one another during the race as they battled for 15th place at the ToyotaCare 250 for the Nascar Nationwide Series at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia.

An intentional brush from Piquet with only 10 laps remaining knocked Scott into the outside wall and cost him more positions in the race. In retaliation, Scott cut across Piquet's path on the cool-down lap. Once both drivers exited their cars, Piquet shoved Scott away before kicking him in the crotch.

"A part of me told me that he was going to hit me for 15th place, and then he did," Scott told NASCAR.com, who wound up 20th.

Scott continued, "I was just showing my displeasure with him after the race and then things escalated. I went to talk to him, I was a little heated and the camera probably shows it, but he kicks me right below the belt, which I think is a below-the-belt type of shot."

After the incident, Scott tweeted, ""I'm going to have to see if@SparcoOfficial can sew cups into my racesuits to protect my jewels. #nascar."

Piquet apologized for the incident, "We both got angry and it's one of those things. Both of us think that we're right and we're both frustrated, so I mean, it's racing. We're racing hard and it happens. I'm sorry."

Nascar did not elaborate on any fines it might assess the drivers, telling Fox News, "We are still gathering all of the facts of what happened and we will address the situation once we have all the information."
