Body Of Missing Texas Cheerleader Found

Last month a body thought to belong to a missing Texas cheerleader Hailey Dunn was found. Today authorities confirm that the body found is that of the missing cheerleader.

According to ABC News the announcement as to the identification of the body found was made via press conference Friday afternoon by the Scurry County Law Enforcement Center.

13-year-old Hailey Dunn has been missing since December 2010, her mother reported her missing. According to KTXS.com (a local Texas news station) police were looking at Dunn's mother's boyfriend Shawn Adkins as a "person of interest in the case." The same website reports that Adkins was the last person to see Hailey Dunn alive.

The cheerleader's body was found in pieces on March 16 near Lake J.B. Thomas in Snyder, Texas. Authorities were able to identify the girl's body using dental records. Police are still investigating the girl's death but have not officially ruled it a homicide.

ABC and KTXS report that when the investigation into Hailey Dunn's disappearance began police began to look at Adkins and her mother. Both suspects failed lie detector tests and "admitted to taking drugs the night before Hailey's disappearance and had refused to cooperate with police, ABC News says."

Adkins and the girl's mother have not been charged in the case. Connie Jones, Hailey Dunn's grandmother told the Associated Press, "At least now we can get some closure. We can bury her. She can go home to her maker. She can be at peace."
