Grammy 2016: Kendrick’s 11 Nominations Proof Of ‘Artistry’; Best Rap Performance, An ‘Anomaly’?

The newly released list of Grammy nominations 2016 revealed that Kendrick Lamar has earned for himself a total of 11 nominations, while Taylor Swift and The Weeknd got seven nominations each.

According to the Associated Press, as shared by Yahoo.com, all the three artists are vying for the much coveted Album of the Year award for "To Pimp a Butterfly," "1989" and "Beauty Behind the Madness," respectively.

However, there might just be a chance that the title will not go to any of them as Chris Stapleton's "Traveller" and rock group Alabama Shakes' "Sound & Color" are likewise gunning for it.

For the songwriter's award Song of the Year nominations for Grammy 2016, Lamar's "Alright" and Swift's "Blank Space" are pitted against Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's tribute to actor Paul Walker, "See You Again," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" and Little Big Town's "Girl Crush."

Recording Academy CEO Neil Portow told the Associated Press that "There's a broad spectrum and certainly it shows there's been quite a bit of wonderful and excellent recordings in the last year."

With Lamar's numerous nominations for Grammy 2016, executive pointed out that "It's a testimony to his artistry." It can be recalled that the rapper won two Grammys earlier this year.

"He's someone that's very serious about his art and about his craft, and has been working it for quite some time," Portow stated. "And this is one of those instances where the work pays off."

On the other hand, Rolling Stone took note of the "weirdest, most surprising and unknown" nominations for the 58th Grammy Awards.

The outlet stated that the Best Rap Performance "category itself is an anomaly since it contains six nominations instead of the usual five."

Rolling Stone further narrated that "Punk icon Patti Smith, one of Rolling Stone's 25 most noteworthy artists to never win a Grammy, finds herself up for a nomination in 2016, but in a very unlikely category: Best Spoken Word."

Who do you think will take home the Grammy 2016 trophies in this list of nominations?
