SHINee's Latest Comeback, Not Enough Promotion? Fans Are Outraged

This past weekend super K-Pop boy band SHINee made their rounds of music shows for their comeback stages of the "Dream Girl" follow-up "Why So Serious?"

The members of SHINee (except Jonghyun who is still recovering following his car accident earlier this month) performed their new single "Why So Serious?" as well as another new song "SHINe" for their comeback of Misconceptions of Me.

Misconceptions of Me completes SHINee's third album and follows the release of the first half Misconceptions of You released in February.

"Why So Serious?" is a funky dance-rock tune with a prominent pop-electronica melody and is about a zombie who falls in love with a human girl. The other eight tracks that round out Misconceptions of Me are equally enjoyable and show a refined step forward for the group who continue to mature and develop their vocals and composition.

SHINee fans, however, are displeased with SM Entertainment, the record company behind the talented boy band, saying the lack of promotions for the comeback is unfair and disgraceful.

Many SM Entertainment critics have accused the label of showing favoritism among their acts, focusing too much time and energy on the activities of mega groups Girls' Generation and Super Junior.

"Not enough media play for SHINee. Such a shame because their song this time is great," remarked one netizen after the group performed on Inkigayo. Another fan pointed out, "Really no media play for SHINee. I didn't even know they made a comeback."

Even though the responses to their releases are always positive, SM continues to under-market the five-member group.

"SM should do something about this if even the fans are begging for media play. I wouldn't even care if the song sucked, but it's a shame that such a great song is being left to rot and forgotten like this," demanded a commenter to and OSEN article published after SHINee's Music Bank comeback stage. "It's gotten tot he point where even OSEN is throwing a bone out for SHINee.

SM Entertainment has yet to respond to fan claims or say why lead-up activities to the latest SHINee comeback were practically non-existent.

Some have speculated that the quiet comeback is out of respect for Jonghyun who could not be present for the "Why So Serious" performances, although there ha been almost no mention of him in the media in the past couple weeks.

Others have insisted SM rushed the release of Misconceptions of Me in order to better focus on promo activities for f(x) and EXO who are expected to make impressive comebacks next month.

Whatever the reason for the under-promotion of SHINee, a couple things are clear; Misconceptions of Me is a powerful way to round out the full-length album, proving the group's idol status, and fans are definitely not pleased with SM's management of the group or their releases.
