American Designer Claims IU Used Artwork For 'Chat-Shire' Album Without Permission

IU's latest album is under scrutiny yet again, this time for the cover art.

In a post on her blog, Illustrator and designer Jessica H. Lee claims that South Korean singer IU (Lee Ji Eun) used her artwork for her latest album, Chat-Shire, without gaining permission.

The blog post highlights the similarities between Lee's artwork and illustrations used on IU's album cover. The artist emphasized that the drawing and coloring style are similar.

According to Korean media reports, following the blog post, the designer who created the Chat-Shire cover contacted Lee with an apology admitting that the images were used as inspiration for her own work.

The album cover is not the first time elements from the Chat-Shire album were criticized.

The song "Zeze" caused public outrage for the sexually suggestive lyrics regarding the title character, a young boy.

Another song from the album, "Twenty-Three," came under scrutiny for allegedly sampling a Britney Spears track without permission.

IU just wrapped up her domestic tour titled 2015 IU CHAT-SHIRE, with the final stop in Gwangju on Dec. 13.
