Stanley Cup Playoffs: NHL Makes Post Season Promotions With Free Stanley Cupcakes

Free cupcakes? Yes please! The NHL has been making their 2013 post season promotional run with a few new tactics this year - the best one being the Stanley Cupcakes give away.

In an effort to get people more interested and involved with 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, the NHL has teamed up with the NBC Sports Group and the Civic Entertainment Group. Their latest promotional tactic involves handing out to the public and sending the media freshly baked Stanley Cupcakes. NBC released a statement about the Stanley Cupcakes collaboration saying:

"NBC Sports Group and Civic Entertainment Group's first campaign will launch this week, with NBC Sports and the National Hockey League (NHL) joining forces with Crumbs Bake Shop (NASDAQ:CRMB) to celebrate the start of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. As part of the "Because It's The Cup" marketing campaign, NBC and CEG have created a limited edition set of "Stanley Cup Cupcakes."

The campaign, which launches Tuesday, April 30 with a press conference in Madison Square Park, NYC, includes:

  • Crumbs Cupcakes featuring all sixteen (16) playoff clubs to be sold at 65+ Crumbs retail locations throughout the country. Select teams in select locations,
  • NBC/NHL/Crumbs co-branded mobile vehicle touring key playoff cities distributing the specially "iced" Cupcakes,
  • Delivery of custom sets of Crumbs Cupcakes to local sports radio stations, affiliate and RSN television networks, media and key business partners.

Mandi Bierly of Entertainment Weekly tweeted a photo of her office's delivery of Stanley Cupcakes saying, "morning delivery from the NHL."

The icing on the Stanley Cupcakes feature the logo from the 16 teams competing in the NHL playoffs. Some teams include, the New York Rangers, the New York Islanders, the Boston Bruins and last years Stanley Cup champions the L.A. Kings.

The Stanley cupcakes were delivered in a Stanley Cup shaped box, while the delivery guys wore white gloves as if they were carrying the real thing.
