Celebs Tweet Congrats To Jason Collins For Coming Out; Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry Among Celebs Use Twitter To Praise NBA Star

The Twitter world has been having its own version of a coming out party for NBA star Jason Collins. NBA star Collins made worldwide headlines yesterday when he became the first active American athlete from a major sports team to reveal he's gay. He declared in an upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated: "I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay." Ellen DeGeneres and Katy Perry were among the many celebrities to use Twitter to praise the NBA star for admitting he's gay.

Although the response has been overwhelmingly positive so far, there have been some negative backlash to Collins declaring he's gay. ESPN reporter Chris Broussard referred to Jason's homosexuality as "an open rebellion to God," while Miami Dolphins player Mike Wallace posted (and quickly deleted) a Twitter post which said, "All these beautiful women in the world and guys wanna mess with other guys SMH."

Fortunately, numerous celebrities stepped up to show their support. Find out what they had to say below!
