Widow Of One Of Boston Bombing Suspects Says She Doesn’t Want Husband’s Body, Tamerlan Tsarnaev Body Remains Unclaimed At Medical Examiner’s Office

The body of one of the Boston bombing suspects, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, has remain unclaimed at the medical examiner’s office in Massachusetts. He died after a gunfight with authorities more than a week ago.

The uncle of the deceased Boston bomber can now claim his body, especially because Tsarnaev’s widow agreed to release it. Other members of the suspect’s family risk arrest if they claim the body.

Amato De Luca, the attorney of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s widow, Katherine Russell, said in a statement that his client had just learned that the medical examiner’s office was ready to release the body of the Boston bombing suspect. Russell wants it released to her husband’s family instead.

If Tsarnaev’s mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, decides to travel to the U.S. to claim her son’s remains, there is a possibility she could be arrested. FBI agents have confirmed the mother of the Tsarnaev brothers as a “person of interest” in their investigations

Detectives said that they were looking into the possibility she may have helped to “radicalize her son, or had contacts with other people or other terrorist groups.”

According to the police, Tsarnaev run out of ammunition before his brother, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, dragged his body under a vehicle while fleeing the scene.

His cause of death has been determined by the medical examiner’s office but would not be made public until his remains are claimed.

Ruslan Tarni of Montgomery Village, MD said on Tuesday night that “family members will take possession of the body.” He declared, “We will do it. We will do it. A family is a family.”

Tsarnaev’s parents are still in Russia, but he has other relatives in America, including Tsarni.

Tamerlan’s brother, Dzokhar Tsarnaev, lies in a prison hospital after being wounded in the shootout with the police as he and his brother made their getaway attempt.

The younger Tsarnaev is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill, a crime that carries a potential death sentence.

De Luca said that Tamerlan’s widow convened with law enforcement “for many hours over the past week” and says that she will continue to cooperate.

FBI agents on Monday visited her parent’s home in North Kingstown, R.I., where she has been staying and left carrying several bags.

Until Tuesday’s statement, De Luca had declined to provide any information whatsoever on Russell’s contact with the authorities. All De Luca confirmed is that Russell is doing everything she could to assist with the investigation.

In addition to declining to claim her husband’s body, which is her legal right as spouse, Russell has taken other steps to distance herself from the Tsarnaev since taking refuge at her family’s home on April 19, only hours after her husband was killed.

The family of Tamerlan’s widow released a statement shortly after Russell was escorted home by federal agents saying “they never really knew” Tamerlan Tsarnaev, their daughter’s husband.
