Tupac Shakur's Aunt in Cuba First Woman Added To FBI Most Wanted List

Tupac's aunt has become the first woman added to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist list.  Tupac, the late rapper, comes from a family full of stone-cold folks, apparently...and they have a habit of disappearing without a trace.

Tupac's aunt and godmother Assata Shakur, a.k.a. Joanne Chesimard, is the first woman added to the FBI's Most Wanted list. With a name like Joanne Chesimard, wouldn't you want to be Assata? A Black Panther radical, she shot a police officer exercution style then escaped from prison two years after her conviction. Many see her as a revolutionary who was unjustly targeted.

Assata Shakur was convicted of the 1973 murder of policeman Werner Foerster back in 1977. She escaped from prison two years later. The FBI announced her addition to the list today, as it is the 40th anniversary of Foerster's death.

Foester was a New Jersey state trooper, and Shakur was a member of the Black Liberation Army. She shot him execution-style in the head with a semi-automatic after she was pulled over for having a broken tail light. Shakur was already known to the FBI for Black Panther membership. She was also wanted for felonies including a bank robbery. After her arrest, she continually espoused being a target due to her radical political affiliations.

Recently, the FBI put Shakur on the  FBI's official Most Wanted list. She's been on the run for almost 35 years at this point, but officials are pretty sure she's in Cuba, just chillin'. The reward for her capture is a cool $2 million, now doubled from $1 mmillion.

Reports say that Shakur has been living in Cuba since about 1984. The FBI believes she has ties to "international terrorist organizations".

In a recent news conference, New Jersey State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes told press "She continues to flaunt her freedom in the face of this horrific crime."

Assata Shakur's brother the stepfather of Tupac Shakur, renowned rapper who was killed in a gun battle in Las Vegas, NV in 1996.
