Review: Five Things We Like About The Music Video For SECRET's 'Yoo Hoo' [VIDEO]

Although it has yet to crack a million YouTube views, the video for girl group SECRET's "Yoo Hoo" has charmed K-pop fans worldwide, including us here at Kpopstarz.

Here are the top five things we like about SECRET's "Yoo Hoo" video.

1. Location, location, location.

Hong Won Ki, the veteran director of the "Yoo Hoo" video, made the refreshing decision to forego green screen technology and CGI sets for shooting outside in a scenic location on the tropical island paradise of Saipan. In addition to the fact the members of SECRET look gorgeous dancing in a natural outdoor surrounding instead of under the harsh lighting of a film studio, it also gives the video a more retro look, recalling classic 1990s American hip hop and R&B videos like TLC's "Waterfalls" and Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize."

2. The hills are alive with the girls of SECRET.

The "Yoo Hoo" video opens with a beautiful aerial shot, reminiscent of "The Sound of Music" which pans out to reveal the four bandmembers dancing on a cliff. Director Hong Won Ki returns to this shot throughout the video and for good reason: it is magical. The deep blue sea and the green moss growing on the cliff is a beautiful contrast.

3. The Ability To Laugh At Themselves.

One of the things that make Psy's videos so appealing to people across cultures is his ability to be goofy and laugh at himself. This is something not often seen in female K-pop acts. They are often either portrayed purely as sex objects or robotic dancing machines. While there is no denying the members of SECRET are both cute and sexy, they also are wacky. In both the "Yoo Hoo" video and the behind-the-scenes clip the band released earlier this week, they seem to just be having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.

4. The Shipwreck.

When Hyosung, Jieun, Sunhwa and Hana climb aboard a yacht called Stars and Stripes we know where this is heading--male models in suits, champagne, caviar. But instead of heading down that well-trodden road in the world of music videos, the members of SECRET are alone on the boat and soon find themselves shipwrecked. The result is more adorable than sexy as the girls struggle to light a campfire, set up a tent and forage for firewood. The idea of a K-pop girl group having to fend for themselves after being stranded on a desert island is pretty funny--reality show producers take note.

5. Hitchhikers or Hobos?

"We're hobos now," several members of SECRET quipped when filming the final sequence in "Yoo Hoo," where after abandoning their campsite the girls attempt to hitchhike back to civilization. The lighthearted ending feels whimsical and non-pretentious, particularly when they are whisked away by a couple of older women in a yellow pickup truck. Well done ladies.
