After joining SNS to better communicate with their fans, idol artists are closing their accounts one by one.

f(x)'s Krystal recently quit Instagram without a formal announcement. But judging from her repeated posts that read "Please do not type in my username to figure out my password. I am getting noticed every time," it is likely that she got tired of continued hacking attempts.

Of course, Krystal is not the first to be on the abusive end of SNS.

JYJ Jaejoong and Junsu, Super Junior's Eunhyuk and Wonder Girls' So Hee have all been hacked previously.

There have been many cases in which celebrities choose to scrap it altogether rather than try to deal with the stress that comes with abusive comments, hacking attempts and hate messages in general. Meant to be a personal, private space, SNS takes a wrong turn for many celebrities as irrational fans use it as a more direct channel to criticize and abuse celebrities.

Despite increasing incidences, there is no solution in sight.

With most SNS websites being internationally based, setting up a preventive system is hardly feasible.

Even when a police report is filed, there is not much that can be done if the originating IP address is from another country. "The only way to prevent hacking may be to be as complex with their account passwords," shared an associate from an entertainment management company.
