Teacher's '50 Shades of Grey' Purchase Could Cost Him His Job

One teacher's "50 Shades of Grey" gift could result in his termination, after the teacher, Philip Aidoo, bought a 9th grade student at the Philadelphia charter school he works at, Eastern University, a copy of the erotic E.L. James novel, and the boy's parent disapproved.

The student's mother, Maya Ladson, cried foul after her 14-year-old son was given the book by Aidoo, and she notified school officials about the perceived indiscretion.

Said Ladson, "This is not okay to me. This is major." Ladson went on to mention that her son was not the only student who had been given the first book, which is the first in the best-selling erotic trilogy that's been read by nearly every mom in the world.

Aidoo, for his part, claims ignorance and had no idea how his purported "gift," would be interpreted by the student's mother. He says he saw the book on a "Wish List" from the child, and so bought the decidedly NSFW novel without believing it was anything unusual.

But Ladson thinks that's BS, saying "It clearly states on the cover that the book is for mature audiences and has high sexual content. This was a 100-percent act of negligence. There should never be pornographic material purchased and distributed to a student by a school teacher."

The often-kinky book stars the college graduate protagonist, Anastasia Steele, and the mysterious businessman, Christian Grey. The two character's BDSM sexual encounters comprise the majority of the novel's narrative thrust. There are explicit scenes detailing bondage and discipline, submission and dominance, and sado-maschism. Not exactly the type of subject matter educators want to be handing out to their young pupils.

So far, the novel has sold 70 million copies worldwide, mostly by bored housewives titilated by the hardcore scenes painted in broad brushstrokes by the author, James.

Officials at the school believe Aidoo's version of the story, and said that it was just an "unfortunate mistake" before apologizing for the Fifty Shades of Grey mixup.

Yvonne Turner, the schools Chief Operating Officer said, ""Unfortunately, Mr. Aidoo did not have an awareness of this popular book and ordered it with his own money."

Despite pressure from Ladson, Turner has refused to fire the teacher.

"We heard nothing but high praises and support for Mr. Aidoo," Turner explained.

Ladson plans on protesting outside the school on Monday over the incident, which will augmenting the embarrassment for her child even further, despite the indiscretion of Mr Aidoo.
