Could f(x) Member Victoria Song Be China's Newest Breakout Star?

Victoria Song (Qian Song) has spent years promoting as an idol and actress in her home country of China, but she may be fast approaching breakout star status.

As of late, Victoria, who rose to fame in South Korea as the leader of SM Entertainment girl band f(x), has been starring in more Chinese dramas and appearing in many Chinese magazines, not to mention her burgeoning social media following as seen in her more than 19 million followers on the Chinese social media site Weibo.

But what could really tip the idol into breakout star status will be her upcoming starring role on the Chinese remake of My Best Friend's Wedding, an American romantic-comedy classic that starred Julia Roberts.

Victoria has also graced the covers of many Chinese fashion magazines, the latest of which is the January 2016 issue of Modern Lady, reports The Korea Herald.

Already, Victoria has become one of the most buzzed about female stars in China. She, along with EXO member Lay, are among the top 10 most searched stars on Weibo in 2015 with a combined 160 million searches among the social media site's users. They are the only K-Pop idol stars in the top 10 list, proving they are a cut above their peers when it comes to popularity in China.

Victoria's rise in China has been helped tremendously by her constant updates on Weibo, where she shares photos of her activities, including daily selfies and overseas trips.
