'Little Psy' Hwang Min Woo Victim of Racist Comments

Hwang Min Woo is the 8-year-old who rose to fame after appearing in Psy's international hit music video for "Gangnam Style" and is known to the world as "Little Psy."

Not long after Psy gained worldwide notoriety, the mini-me version of himself also became a celebrity and signed with Star Zone Entertainment.

In March, Little Psy released his first solo single, "Show+Time," and while it was not nearly as popular as efforts by the real Psy, it did create a fair mount of buzz around the little guy - not just for his music.

Hwang Min Woo is the child of an intercultural marriage, his father is Korean and his mother is Vietnamese. Unfortunately this fact has resulted in quite a few problems for the young singer, as he was often bullied by schoolmates.

After getting attention for his connection to Psy and "Gangnam Style," Little Psy and his family thought the negative attention was behind them, but it did not last long.

On May 2, Star Zone Entertainment announced that they had taken legal action against individuals who had posted racist hate speech on their company website in regards to the young boy.

As the police investigation continues, it was revealed that starting on April 23, a day after Little Psy released a parody of "Gentleman," about a dozen members of an internet community known as 'Ilgan Best' began to overwhelm Star Zone Entertainment's homepage with hateful and racist remarks.

The sort of messages left targeted Hwang Min Woo calling him an "inferior half-breed" and suggesting it is wrong for "people like him" to live in Korea.

Star Zone Entertainment filed a report with the police on April 25 and later released a statement saying, "When someone says something so vile against an 8-year-old child just because his father married someone of a different race, how are they in their right mind? We will be taking aggressive measures to find out who the people were behind these hateful posts."

K-Pop idols are often the victims of online abuse from netizens, but everyone seems to agree that these comments crossed a very big line.   "What could you possibly get out of hating a child?" asked one netizen, while others feel sorry for Hwang Min Woo and are showing their support with comments like, "Min Woo doesn't deserve this," and "Find strength Min Woo."

Other netizens are outraged by the racist comments and are calling on the police to catch the individuals responsible.  "Catch them all and reveal their identities," one poster commented, and others have followed suit agreeing with the police plan to identify the people responsible and take the necessary legal action against them.
