Colorado Teacher Tapes Mouths of 28 Students, No Charges Filed

Police investigated a teacher in Colorado who taped the mouths of 28 students at Fulton Academy, near Aurora, Colorado, and determined that no crime was committed.

A student told her parents about the incident but when police interviewed her, she said that the teacher meant it as a joke. The teacher used Scotch tape to vertically tape the students across the mouth.

The unidentified teacher told police that she was preparing to take the class to the library when she joked that, "Maybe if I taped your mouths shut that would keep you quiet." Allegedly, the 28 students were laughing and asked to have their mouths taped as punishment for not being quiet. The teacher said she didn't "think anything bad" about the joke.

The teacher was in tears during the interview with police. She told them she looked at the children as her own and "would never do anything to hurt a child."

The mother of the girl who told her parents about the incident said that her daughter is allergic to tape and that it could have caused her lips to swell. She told her mother that "it hurt when the tape was removed."

After investigation, the police confirmed that there was no sign of any injury or pain to the girl's mouth. Another student is reportedly afraid to return to the classroom.

The police also determined that there is no probable cause to file charges or make an arrest. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. It has not been said whether or not the teacher will be allowed back in the classroom.
