While some idol groups may have it all, some haven't had the chance to hold their first concert or have an official fanclub name or color. For girl group Dal Shabet, winning first place hasn't happened in their careers yet.
In an interview with Newsen, the members of Dal Shabet gave their honest opinion on how much ranking first would mean to them.
"I want it so badly," Ahyoung started off saying, according to allkpop. "In the past, I didn't think much about getting first place... However, maybe it was starting with the Joker promotions? I did feel like my pride was getting hurt. This wasn't because other singers were doing well, but rather because of my feelings toward our Dal Shabet."
Ahyoung admitted to questioning the purpose of their hard work if it wasn't being rewarded with achievements such as these. Woohee, on the other hand, expressed her determination for the group to place first on music shows.
"I had thought that our being active for a long time was a success. That is seriously a success," Woohee began. "However, there's the feeling right now that we need to get number one no matter what, right? Honestly, we want to promote for a long, long time, and because we hear a lot of talk about 'first place,' we feel anxious for no reason? It feels like first place has become the indicator of success."
In response, Ahyoung emphasized the group's main goal is to promote for a longer period of time and that number one is something they aim to achieve to validate their success and continue to make their parents, fans, as well as Jiyul and Ga Eun, proud.
"Everybody wants to become number one. There are people who think we have no ambition when we say that our goal is to promote for a long time," Ahyoung said. "However, I don't think getting first place is always the best ultimate goal to wish for. We want first place and we're working towards it, but above that, we want to promote for a long, long time. I believe that Dal Shabet has a brand value. In order to make that value shine even more, I want to get first place."
However, if the Dal Shabet manages to snag first this year, Subin gave a heads up to fellow members that she might need help.
"Even if another group gets called for first instead of us, I think I would faint. I need to prepare an ambulance beforehand," she said.
Well, 2016 practically just started, and maybe it will be the year Dal Shabet will finally get placed first.
