Zip-Tied 4-Year-Old Kicked or Punched In Mouth By Barbaric Parents [VIDEO]

A zip-tied 4-year-old, with ties normally used by electricians to bind wires, was the way one deranged Raleigh, North Carolina couple dealt with their daughter.

The two parents, 26-year-old Gerald Thomas Swinehart and 28-year-old Marlaine Victoria Coffey, flew from where they were being held in Florida to North Carolina this weekend to face the charges of zip-tying their child on Monday at Wake County court. Their child was removed from them on March 31, and placed with child services.

According to Raleigh police, the father, Swinehart, is also accused of breaking his little daughter's lower teeth after hitting her in the mouth earlier this year.

She needed medical attention, but was not removed from her parent's home until March 31. The Raleigh arrest warrants for the two parents claimed there were visible bruises to her wrists and ankles from the zip ties.

Coffey's bond was set at $50,000, and Swinehart's at $100,000 and both have long prison sentences awaiting them if convicted of their abuse charges. Swinehart is charged with two counts of intentional abuse inflicting serious physical injury, while Coffey has been given one count. It's not known if the awful parents have an attorney.

The Charlotte Observer reports:

"Arrest warrants from Raleigh police said Gerald Thomas Swinehart, 26, pushed or kicked the girl so that her lower teeth broke through her lower lip, and he and Marlaine Victoria Coffey, 28, were charged with using zip ties - the plastic pull-through strips that electricians use to bundle wires - to bind the girl's wrists and ankles and then to tie her to a baby gate."

It's not clear how the police discovered the abuse, or if the zip-tied method of restraint was used in one incident or multiple times earlier this year. The arrest warrant merely said it occurred earlier this year in February and March.

The couple left Florida to face the charges in North Carolina, after being held at the Martin County Jail in Stuart, Florida.
