Al Pacino Quits 'Despicable Me 2' During Production Over 'Creative Differences' Just 2 Months Before The Film's Premiere [Video]

Al Pacino quit recording for Despicable Me 2, reports the producers of the Steve Carell-voiced animated comedy:

"Over the production of Despicable Me 2, there were creative differences between us and Al Pacino, who had been cast as the voice of Eduardo in the film. We have mutually decided with Al to replace the voice of Eduardo with a new actor. Universal and Illumination thank Al for his many contributions to the process and look forward to a new actor bringing this memorable character to the screen upon its release this summer."

The 73-year-old Academy Award winning actor left after "creative differences" with producers had the whiskey and cigarette-voiced actor storming out of a recording booth, reports MSN Entertainment.

The split comes just two months before the film is set to premiere on July 3, 2013. According to Deadline, they had already finished most of the voice work needed for the role of villain Eduardo for the animated flick.

Actor Benjamin Bratt of Law and Order is set to replace Pacino, as the voice of the villain, but producers are scrambling to get all of his parts recorded before the film is edited and shipped to movie theaters.

Bratt has done voice work before, most notably in the animated Oscar-nominated Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

The first Despicable Me made a boat-load of cash for Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment. Both the first iteration of the film starred NBC's The Office, Steve Carell, as the titular, Gru, a hard luck villain who adopts three daughters in a plot for world domination.

The villain falls for the three daughters, despite his competition with "Super Villain" Vector, voiced by Jason Segel.

Bridesmaids actress, Kristen Wiig is set to appear in the sequel; she voiced the evil orphanage matron, Miss Hadie, in the first film. Wiig is listed on IMDB as playing a new role, as character, Lucy Wilde, in the second installment.

Besides the returning actors, Russell Brand, Ken Jeong and Steve Coogan are also said to be involved in the new production. Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Kate Fisher, who voiced the three daughters, will also be in the new film.
