Mnet is planning a sequel to their currently-airing series Produce 101, but with a twist.
The second season of Produce 101 will be a male version of the show, with 101 trainees from entertainment agencies across South Korea competing to see who is worthy of reaching the top.
According to statement made by a representative of Mnet to Star News on Mar. 8, the second season of Produce 101 will be produced by Han Dong Chul, the man behind popular Mnet shows Show Me The Money and Unpretty Rapstar, and hopes to air by December of this year or early January 2017.
The insider also shared inside info revealing that the concept may be different than the first season of Produce 101.
"Although it is a boy version, we have not decided whether it will be about making a boy group. We are currently undecided, but are looking at various plans that will draw viewer's attention in a different way," the insider added.
Produce 101, which began airing on Jan. 22, brought together 101 trainees from 46 entertainment agencies across Korea for a survival competition. The top 11 trainees will be placed in an idol group together and will be revealed in the final episode on April 1.
