Padma Lakshmi the Indian-born American author, actress, model married novelist Salman Rushdie on Apr. 17, 2004. Recently she talked in details about her marital life which lasted only for 3 years.
The couple had filed for divorce on Jul. 2, 2007 and both their marriage and divorce got a huge media coverage then. Recently The Telegraph talked in details about how the relationship which was hunky dory in the beginning turned sour. ''Miss Lakshmi and Sir Salman married in 2004, dividing their time between London - where his two sons lived - and New York. She told how he used to make her breakfast in bed every morning, and at first their marriage was blissful'' mentioned the article.
In the story ''Salman Rushdie has been described as needy, jealous and uncaring in an unflattering new book from his ex-wife.'' Padma Lakshmi stated that Rushdie was upset every time Nobel Prize for literature was given to someone else and he needed consoling for a long time. At the same time he was jealous of his young wife too.
When Padma Lakshmi was pictured on the cover of Newsweek, and she showed the magazine to Rushdie, instead of being happy, he got jealous. "The only time Newsweek put me on their cover was when someone was trying to put a bullet in my head'' was Rushdie's response.
India Today talked about the autobiography of Padma Lakshmi in details. ''I just wanted my own identity. I was making the transition out of one stage of my life and into another. But in order to do that, it required that I wasn't everywhere that he [Rushdie] needed me to be," told Padma Lakshmi.

''I think it's going to be hard because I do talk about intimate things and I think that's going to perhaps be difficult for him but I tried to be even-handed about explaining the wonderful years that I had with Salman too'' told Padma in her interview with People.
''Because I do still love him. In many ways, I consider him still part of my family. I think if you really fall in love with someone, even if you fall out of love with them, you still must have some little portion, some little imprint, on your heart that can never be extinguished or erased'' she added further.
