Lindsay Lohan Can't Leave Betty Ford Center During Her Court Mandated Stay But "It's Not A Jail" Says Betty Ford Spokesman

Lindsay Lohan can't leave the Betty Ford Clinic according to People, but that doesn't mean she's being held against her will. The 26-year-old actress who hasn't had a big role in years, checked into the Rancho Mirage, California center earlier this month for violating probation, but unlike other guests, the child star of The Parent Trap is basically trapped at the sprawling desert center.

Lohan can't leave the grounds, according to a letter sent to Lohan's attorney, Shawn Holley, and filed with the L.A. Superior Court.

"It is understood by the Betty Ford Center that your client is to remain on the premises for the duration of her 90-day stay in treatment," the document reads.

But the rehab facility is a far cry from lock-up. Previously, a Betty Ford Center intake counselor told People, "We can't hold a patient against their will, we can't stop a patient from running away. We're not a jail, but we closely monitor patients via security and technicians 24 hours a day."

Other Betty Ford Center rules include forbidden cell phones, in which patients can only place a short call on the weekends or in special circumstances, and they're only allowed Internet on the weekends.

Perhaps more appropriate for Lohan, can't shake the persistent allure of drugs and alcohol normally associated with pop starlets, patients at Betty Ford are randomly drug tested.

The letter from the treatment facility also gives us an idea of Lohan's day-to-day activities. She's treated by different experts: a physician, a psychologist, a case manager, a spiritual care counselor (only in California!), a family counselor (Lohan's mom, Dina, might need to get in on that), a dietician, fitness trainer, and a chemical dependency technician.

Her schedule is plotted out hour-to-hour from a 6 a.m. wake-up to a 9 p.m. light's out.

The counselor also said "There is physical exercise and group therapy everyday. This is not a vacation."

Perhaps unsurprising to most, but this isn't Lohan's first visit to the Betty Ford Clinic. She got into a scuffle with a Betty Ford employee in December of 2010, which involved police, but local prosecutors said there wasn't enough evidence to charge her or the employee.

Most recently, Lohan appeared on the Charlie Sheen television vehicle, Anger Management, where she played herself.

Lindsay's sister, Ali Lohan, has recently said "I have to prove myself as a model" and how she'll do things differently with fame: "I want to do good things with my fame, or whatever it is. I want to help and do charity work."
