Anderson Cooper Swatted: Cooper First East-Coast Victim To "Swatting" Prank

Anderson Cooper Swatted: Andersdon Cooper is the latest reported victim of the disturbing new celebrity "swatting" trend. All of the previous incidents have occurred in Los Angeles. The home pranksters 'Swatted' was on Cooper's New York property.

In "swatting", someone phones in a false report to 911, causing a SWAT team and other first-responders, like ambulances or paramedics, to be sent to the celeb's house. It's a prank of the cruelest kind - and the most wasteful of important, costly time and resources for SWAT teams and medics.

When Anderson Cooper was swatted, it marked the inaugural incident outside Los Angeles. The New York Post reported Tuesday that police rushed to Anderson Cooper's home in the Hamptons last month after a false report was phoned in, saying there was a shooter. The caller said a man had just shot his wife there.

Cooper, 45, the popular CNN anchor and "silver fox", wasn't home when police got to his house in Southampton town to find everything peaceful and quiet.

Several other celebrities have been "swatted", including Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, and Tom Cruise. The fake emergencies reported are causing the LAPD a great deal of frustration. Last month, the Los Angles Police Department announced to press that they'd no longer issue any press or information about "swatting" incidents, lest they encourage copycat crimes. Hopefully, Anderson Cooper's swatting will be the first and last such incident to take place on the East Coast.
