105-Year-Old Bacon Woman Believes Bacon Is The Key To Her Longevity

A 105-year-old woman believes the key to longevity is bacon - and she's living proof!

Pearl Cantrell, 105, is from Richland, Texas, and she has a life-long love of bacon. "I love bacon, I could eat it for every meal - and I do!" she said. She told her local TV station how much she loved the porky product, and Oscar Mayer dispatched a Weinermobile to honor her as a result. They made a special delivery of (what else?) a giant box of bacon. She got to ride shotgun around her small Texas town in the Weinermobile to boot.

In April, Cantrell told a reporter for an Abeline-based paper, "I love bacon, I eat it everyday."

"I don't feel as old as I am, that's all I can say," Cantrell said.

Cantrell still dances and is still going strong - maybe thanks to all the bacon rashers throughout her life. She told the TV network that her 105th birthday party was a three-day gala with over 200 guests.

"We've seen a lot of stories on the road, but nothing quite like this one, so we're excited to be here," an Oscar Meyer spokesperson told press. "We know she's an inspiration. Pearl is an inspiration for the community, and her friends and family. So we had to make a special stop here for her today."

Actually, there may be some validity behind Cantrell's fierce allegiance to her favorite food. A study from the University of Zurich that appeared in the BMC Medicine in March found that eating little or no red meat can be a risk factor for early death. That said, the very same study found that eating too much bacon increases the risk of bowel cancer. The study was conducted by analyzing the diets of a very large sample size, more than 400,000 people, who were between the ages of 35 and 69.

Regardless of the science, we love that the 105-year-old woman's love of bacon is so solid that the good folks at Oscar Meyer had their Wienermobile made a stop in her Texas town last week to wish her a happy birthday.
