Police were dispatched to the scene as soon as the convenience store reported the incident, and based on a witness, Kangin's car was the suspected to be the cause of the accident.
Kangin reportedly parked his car in front of the convenience store at midnight, then left and returned two hours later, to when the accident occurred.
According to Yonhap News, Kangin's blood alcohol content was over .05 percent, which is above the limit for a driver's license suspension.
A police officer investigating the case stated, "According to estimates, Kangin's blood alcohol content would have gone up even more after driving the car, but we are still currently investigating whether he was drunk or not." This statement means that Kangin may have had unabsorbed alcohol in his stomach when he started driving.
SM Entertainment, Kangin's agency, has released an official statement on the incident, apologizing and stating that Kangin will put all current activities on hold and go into self-reflection.
