Eddie Murphy 'Beverly Hills Cop' TV Show Rejected By CBS; Pilot Show Will Be Shopped To Other Networks

Eddie Murphy's acting career is continuing its decline, but the actor experienced most humiliating blow yet. Murphy attempted to return to the small screen with a Beverly Hills Cop TV show, which would follow the same plot as Murphy's '80s movie which experienced major box office success. However, the pilot was officially rejected by CBS despite early buzz and a high profile. No official was given for CBS passing on Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop show, but the pilot will now reportedly be shopped around to other networks.

Murphy's 2012 flick A Thousand Words was given the unflattering distinction of being the worst reviewed film of all time. It earned an outstanding 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with all 41 reviews deeming it negative.

Naysayers range from the established media, such as Claudia Puig of USA Today - "The concept is unoriginal, the scenarios aren't funny, and its message is banal" - to the blogosphere (Brian Tallerico of HollywoodChicago.com: "Only the most masochistic connoisseurs of the truly awful need check it out").

Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly wrote: "Everyone in the film seems to be living in Stupid High-Concept Movieville", while Barbara VanDenburgh of the Arizona Republic judged that "with A Thousand Words, Murphy plunges headlong back into the swamp of insipid comedies he'd just crawled his way out of."

All of the major television networks have cancelled or renewed numerous shows over the last few days. ABC has renewed Scandal, Grey's Anatomy and Once Upon a Time, while NBC has renewed Community for another season. NBC also cancelled Smash, Whitney and The New Normal, while ABC cancelled Red Widow, Body of Proof and Happy Endings.
