Overheated Transformer Forces The Evacuation of The West Wing of The White House

According to published reports, an overheated electrical transformer forced the evacuation of the West Wing of the White House yesterday morning. President Barack Obama and his family were not affected and no one was harmed.

A White House official announced, “Early this morning, an electrical transformer near the West Wing malfunctioned and set off a smoke alarm in the West Wing. The transformer problem was quickly resolved. Electricity and personnel access to the West Wing has returned to normal. The First Family was unaffected.”

Smoke from the overheated transformer equipment in the West Wing set off an alarm. U.S. Secret Service spokesman Max Milien told news outlets that someone reported seeing smoke coming out of what appeared to be mechanical closet at around 7 a.m.

Peter Alexander, a White House correspondent for NBC News, tweeted that firetrucks were arriving on the scene and that one of the guards told him, “You gotta leave, there’s smoke.”

The West Wing was evacuated as a precaution and the Washington D.C. Fire Department was called in. It was reported that five fire trucks responded to the scene, but they departed shortly after arriving. The D.C. Fire Department later said that an “odor that smelled like smoke” was reported. An official from the D.C. Fire Department said that the smell eventually dissipated, and there was no fire.

The electrical transformer issue was resolved quickly, and the situation at the White House returned to normal.
