17 People Shot In New Orleans During Mother's Day Parade

At least 17 people were reported shot in New Orleans during a Mother's Day second line parade through the Seventh Ward, according to the CBS affiliate, WWL-TV.

The New Orleans police department said a 9 or 10-year-old girl was one of the injured, receiving a bullet graze wound to her side.

Several others were shot in the arms and legs or were grazed by bullets, and no fatalities are being reported at this time.

CBS is reporting there were 200 people at the corner where shots rang out, and 300 to 400 people at the second line in all.

Second line parades are brass band musical processions that are traditional in New Orleans.

Abdul Aziz believes he was standing right next to one of the shooters.

"Everyone around me, except me, was shot," he said. "I was pretty fortunate to get away."

Aziz, 33, a photojournalist, was at the parade when shooting started at the corner of Frenchman Street and North Villere Street.

"We turned off of a main thoroughfare to a smaller residential street and that's when the shots rang out. I was standing, I believe, right next to the shooter. I saw muzzle flash, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to see who the shooter was," he said.

Police are looking for three suspects, one of which was described the suspect as a dark skin male, 18-22 years old with short hair, a white shirt and blue jeans. All suspects are still on the loose, said CBS.

"We can tell you without doubt that this police department will find these guys," NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said, according to WWL-TV. "We will find them, and we will bring them to custody and will make them pay for the crime they committed today."

There is no word yet on motive in the shooting, according to the CBS affiliate in New Orleans.
