The world's richest moms were recently profiled by Forbes magazine. The article explored how some of the world's richest moms balance careers and raising children.

Interestingly, there are 3,300 people in the world who have a billionaire father, but only 305 with a billionaire mother. Less than two dozen made their fortune on their own, rather than inherited it.

Meg Whitman is one such self-made woman. She's a former eBay CEO and the current Hewlett-Packard CEO, is worth about $2 billion, and has two sons,. She credits her family with helping her stay grounded and giving her inspiration, rather than holding her back in her career.

Another one of the women profiled was Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, Apple founder. She's worth about $10.7 billion, and has three children, who are rarely in the media spotlight.. "She has three children and you don't really hear about them," the article said.

That might be a good idea- Gina Rinehart, a mining heiress who is worth about $17 billion and is the richest Australian, has had some very public battles with her children over their trust. The trust has been delayed for 50 years; her children tried to reverse this in court. Rinehart claimed they were "slackers" and should get jobs.

Similar public battles have occurred with L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, whose daughter has finally taken over the family fortune after years of bitter court

Oprah, "perhaps the most famous self-made female billionaire", doesn't have her own children, but  is called Mom-Oprah by kids at her school in South Africa. The graduates attending college in the U.S. stay at her house on their spring breaks and call her "when they feel homesick", according to the article.  She also helped raise partner Stedman Graham's daughter Wendy.

Fashion billionaire Tory Burch, who has a net worth of about $1 billion, is very private about her family. She has said that her "children are off limits," that, indeed, her entire "personal life is off-limits."
