Actor Shin Dong-Wook publishes novel, still battling the rare disease

Actor Shin Dong-Wook writes a novel after six years absent because of the rare disease CRPS which he was contracted in 2011. There is still no plan yet for his comeback to acting.

Following his six years hiatus from acting and other activities after being contracted to a rare disease CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), Shin writes a novel in his spare time. His novel titled “Space Journal” tells the love story between two geniuses, a wacky businessman and a theoretical physicist as reported by Korea Times. He also made an arrangement to launch an event to promote his book, but there is no official announcement regarding the plan.

The novel is scheduled to publish in mid-November as reported by Joins News and it was written during his spare time after he resigned from his activity in 2011 after suffering a rare disease CRPS.

Shin was first collapsed during exercise in 2010 when he was in his mandatory military service in his first year of the military conscription. Further examination found that he was contracted with a rare disease CRPS. Afterward, he was discharged from the military service and he resigned from his activities afterward.

The disease which also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is a long term condition which makes people who contracted the disease to suffer a severe pain in their body, particulary in their limbs. There is no certain cause of the disease, but it is related to some irregularities in the central nervous system.

Shin is a talented and acclaimed actor. He won the New Star Award in 2007 KBS Drama Award for his role in War of Money. His renown drama was MBC’s Soulmate in 2006. Following the disease, he was rarely seen from the public.
